t-case from auto and manual trans

ok, here is the skinny. Going to be swapping my 48re for a g56 from a buddy in Texas here soon. He has a 6.7 truck (before you start saying it wont work, it does. suncoast has a unit to control the 48) and mine is a 5.9. My truck has the electric shift tcase and his is a manual tcase. what is the difference in the input shafts on the tcase's? can we swap input shafts? I was thinking on finding a manual shift tcase that was behind a 48 (his buddy owns a wrecking yard near his place) and swapping the wrecking yard for my tcase. that way I get a manual tcase and he does not have to do anything goofy. I have already talked with the powers that be and getting a flash for my truck to make it think it is a manual so that is covered. I am getting everything for this swap

column
tranny
southbend 3250 DD clutch & hydros
pedal
CD in NM is giving me her rear drive shaft since she is going to a 1 piece (she has a g56 in her mega cab)
the WHOLE 9 YARDS for a direct swap.

Anyone in the Emory Texas area want to come by and help when we get ready (here in the next month or so) you are more than welcome to swing by and shoot the breeze or even lend a hand.

I would guess there is no difference between the manual or auto. Pretty sure that ended in 96 when the manuals and autos started using the same spline count and shaft size. Dunno for sure as never tried exactly that swap.

2006 and up manual/auto xfer cases should be the same bolt up and plug n play. The sensor that lights the dash light should be the same also. The only difference is the wiring to the 'girlie' switch, that should be a harness you might want to look at disconnecting if you can??? May need a 'dummy plug' to fool the trucks computer into thinking it's 'present' . . suppose you could plug in another 'present dummy' we all know to get the job done???

You guys gotta calm down when you don't get responses but see 'views'.

Search engine bots and spiders crawl all over the web looking for keywords. So while your post may have received 32 views, it may not have been a bot with a Dodge....

Ok, Chris, that just verified they did not change the TC splines from second gens.

Supposedly you can swap just the input gears. I have read somewhere the 271/273 is the same with the exception of manual/electric engagement.

Here is one.

Good info on conversion here, looks like it isn't easy to go back and forth, so a new TC might be best.

THank you Pat. Looks like I might just stick with my electric shift tcase for now. CD in NM gave me her rear shaft since she is installing a 1 piece so it will bolt right up with no issues (hers is a mega also)

Hey Chris.

I have the 'girlie ****' it isn't so bad . . you'll have the stick shifter . . it qualifies as a 'manly lever'.

and, by the way, I see the weather forcast is suggesting we are going to have another SNOW STORM rolling in on MONDAY . . I guess my trip up to Albq will be filled with chills and thrills . . planning to hit your place somewhere around 9PM.

looking forward to seeing you and Kathy! Drive safe. I am thinking I will just stick the the "girlie ****" as you put it! LOL... If it goes out then I will find a "manly lever".

I am getting anxious to do the swap! It will be nice to have the double disc clutch in there for the dyno day this next year. I will put the black bucket on the rollers!

WHOA !!!!! The Black Bucket on the rollers . . you ARE getting anxious. Keep it up and I'll have to do the same . . well, maybe . . . the old blue beast is SO used to being driven like an old lady . . .

I get teased constantly about the 'girlie ****' in my truck, you see, someone else has a 'manly lever' in a Jeep Wrangler and a Ford PU.

Truthfully, I don't miss having to get out and lock the hubs like has to be done in the Ford. The Jeep has the fulltime 4x4 stuff like the Dodge.

All I have to combat all of that is the comparison of the Dodge to the Ford and the Miata (which has no girly/manly) to the Wrangler (has the manly) but both are 5-speeds.

Somehow, I think I still come out ahead ????
