I'm going to 1 year or 15K oil change interval with new oil filter and make up oil at 7500 miles or 6 months but I'm also doing UOA's just to be safe.

Yeah, I change my oil every 7500 miles... It's just easier to keep up with that way...

I change Trans, diffs and transfer case every 30k...

I do alot of driving, but not alot of hauling... only on weekends and a 30ft camper usually during the summer on vacations...

The cost difference isn't that much but I agree on changing too early. 12km or 7500m works for me.

X2 on the cold start difference. This is my first winter with full syn and even with temps just in the single digits F the difference at start up is noticeable. During previous winters and similar temps there were some mornings I didn't care for the noise coming from the motor and the slow rise in oil pressure, which bumps up just fine with full synthetic this winter. I think I paid an extra $6 or $7 per gallon, even with the added cost it's still cheaper then taking to to the local dealer for an oil change with dino.

My truck is a daily driver on the weekend and tow lots of trailers during the week. Not sure but still old school for me. Change the oil every 3K with Rotella.

Every 3k is just wasting oil and filters. But you know that. Its hard to break old ways.I use to do the same thing. Was like withdrawals getting away from 3k interval.

I am running Dino oil now and have 22k miles on the truck, so I am now ready to switch to synthetic. Especially because I think dealer may be using CJ-4. I ran synthetic in my gasser (Tundra 4x4) for the last 15k before I sold it and I loved synthetic. I did'nt think I would but I actually noticed a difference. Somehow motor seemed a little snappier, quicker to rev, and definately picked up 1 mpg. I went from consistantly averaging 15 and change to 16 and change. I do a lot of miles so if this holds true it is cheaper for me to pay a little more for synthetic and pick up the savings in gas milage, not to mention posibly longer engine life. I am going to put syn it the diffs to to see if it helps MPG there too.

As another member stated I run Rotella 5W40 and change oil every 3k miles. I use the best filter and oil which still cost me less than the dealers cheap filter and dino oil. The money that I save by not taking it to the dealer for servicing, enables me to run the higher quality fluids and filters.

FYI, yes the Mopar oil filter is just a rebadged Fleetguard, but it uses standard paper filtering media and not Fleetguards best the Stratapore that uses synthetic filtering media.

I go with the Rotella 15w40 mainly because my truck has 4:10's and screams on the interstate. My oil pressure is gettin pretty low and dont want anything thinner. I will be gettin a new oil pump this spring. But especially the way that oil costs....I stick to the 15w40. I have to put in 2 1/2 gallons every oil change. I would hate to think how much you guys need on your 5.9's

Just 12 qts. Not much more.
Maybe 14 w/ a bypass system.

I would look at new bearings as well when your putting that new oil pump in!
Then run the synthetic oil!
You will like it!
