Swaping engine to a 2nd gen

My friend just recently wrecked her 04 5.9 dually .. and I mean wrecked it. Unfortunately she only had liability so she is forced to part it out. My question is; what is the difference between the 1998.5-2002 5.9 cummins and the 2003-2007 5.9 cummins as far as motor swaps are concerned? How hard and whats involved in swapping a 3rd gen cummins into a 2nd gen 24v cummins? We found a 2002 that would pretty much be perfect for the swap, but would like to know what I'm getting myself into before I offer my assistance Thanks!

a friend of mine put a common rail in his Ford using the Ford transmission. It's been done a lot.

i think the 04 Dodge uses 1 computer, the 98-02 uses 2 computers (ECM PCM)

wiring it up will be the only problem.
