suspension

Why the more I drive the more it sounds like my suspension is falling off when I hit a big pot hole or drop off a big curb it makes a loud clunk?
Nothing is loose in the front end but it sure sounds like it is sometimes.
The truck is still stock it has about 45000 on it. I heard that the stock shocks suck and i need new tires.

IF the stock shocks are shot then they will bottom out, and flop around. Also the bushing that attaches them to the frame will around, if you pull the weight off of them then you can useually shake them really good.

I know this sounds weird but if the sound is coming from the passengers side, it might be that your coolant resevoir bottle is low. If you look on the bottle itself you will see the markings for low and high and somewhere just above the low mark is a mark made with a felt-tip pen. That mark indicates the level of the coolant when it left the factory. Anything lower than that mark causes the coolant to splash up under the bottle giving it a clunking sound. A few months after doing my suspension install I developed the clunking sound and asked around and was told of this problem. I put more coolant in and problem solved.

Coolant is ok and I know the sound you are talking about and that is not it. This sound is louder and more like something metal knocking. What is the best way to tell if the shocks are bad?

Check tie rod bushings. That's been the cause in many cases I know of.
