Submit your stupid and expensive mistakes. Heres mine.
When I put my manual hubs on I was in such a hurry to just get them on that I didn't check first to make sure all the parts were there
so I get it all torn down ready to go back together and there are these two special shims for the axle u joints that were not in the kit.
This was on a friday night and the front end of my truck is all torn apart up on jackstands. I had to wait til monday to call and explain but they overnighted them to me no problem. Lesson - whenever you do an upgrade make sure ALL the parts are there before you start. Yeah stupid I know. Any idiot would check the parts first.

Forgetting to tighten down the jacks on the slide-in camper resulting in it becoming a drop-in camper....
Other half putting the garage door down on top of the cab....
Removing a hopelessly stuck wheel speed sensor because it just looked like too much work to unplug (yeah, I know), resulting in a 2-piece sensor....
Damage to truck in above cases: minimal
Damage to pride: immense

Lucky for you it was only paper towels? Years ago I got to see a "runaway" diesel. The diesel tech came in and asked for a phonebook. Not a thin local one either. That was a MESS!

I've had two problems involving my Dodge.
1) Since my truck barely fit through the garage door, I decided to use a 2x4 to "prop" the door up a bit more to clear the truck. When I was done working on the truck, I started backing it out of the garage and instinctively hit the the garage door opener button. A split second later I saw what was happening and hit the button again, but it still bent the door frame and a couple of the panels.
Luckily I was able to beat the door back into shape. Thankfully my wife's never found out!
My next issue involved trying to replace the overhead display on my '06 SLT with one from an '05 1500 Laramie just to add the Homelink feature. A simple plug and play I thought. Well it went in fine, but the gauges, stereo and lights were all messed up and the truck wouldn't start!
I was able to remove the new overhead and put my stock one back in and the truck started right back up. I checked and had a code set as a result, but I was able to clear it with the Smarty and I've been fine since. I still plan to replace the overhead, but I'll be sure to use one from a 2006 Diesel.

I did a DIY trans flush on a Sunday afternoon in my garage when my truck hit 30K, my brother was helping me and after we got it all put back together and topped off perfectly with the last drop of the last bottle of high dollar ATF, we were wiping our hands off and I look on the workbench, and there sits the magnet that goes in the tranny pan.
So we drop pan again, lose a little ATF (lost it down my arm and on my head, doesn't wash out easy) and get the magnet back in. Closest place then to get ATF+4 on a Sunday was 20 miles away. When I do my tranny again here in a couple thousand miles I think I will just leave the magnet in the pan instead of taking it out to clean it.

Well as for me... I operate a backhoe for a utility... The old phrase from the spotter... "did ya feel something" Me " I don't think so let me take a little more out" nuf said!!! 1 wet spotter & 1 water service nicked....
Now my EX (she is my EX so I can tell this without repercussions).. bought a brand new 03 7.3 loaded 55K ford f250.. ( I know first mistake but it is a nice truck and its been dependable).. Before she measured it she measured the top of her parking structure and it cleared by about 2 inches.... what she didn't take into account was the entrance of the garage was a steep downward hill and flattened under the gate.. Smacked the roof first night she had the truck... then did nothing but complain because there is no parking in front of her condo.. the 2 block walk used to get to her.

it seems like when we make big mistakes like these that it is the end of the world. But throughout time these mistakes make the best campfire stories. Im still afraid that the paper towels into the turbo mistake will come back and haunt me. Im thinking ******up turbo or blocked up intercooler. Something. I just dont know. The dealer said everything was cleaned up, and OK. The truck runs fine, no different than before. Temps good, oil pressures good, turbo is singing away. Anyone out there think otherwise. Give me your thoughts.

Oh, Ryder Truck rental can tell you what happens when you soak the air filter with 3 cans of starting fluid then jump back in the truck to start it. I think we made about 16k on that one.
