Stuck Dual Mass Flywheel
Stuck Dual Mass Flywheel
I am replacing the clutch on my 2006 dually. I removed the pressure plate and disc.. Now I need to remove the secondary flywheel.. It just rocks back and forth. I cant get it to come off.. I have been prying on it, but that doesnt work either.
I have to get it off as I need to replace the flywheel.. Going to the single mass conversion..
I have been having a metalic growning noise.. I think the springs in the secondary flywheel are collapsed.. The secondary flywheel is very loose on its hub.
Does anybody have any ideas?
Thanks for your help guys..

I have been doing searches here on stuck dmf, but found nothing.. Then I put in removing dual mass flywheel..
I found one post saying its bolted from the front of the flywheel.. I'll check that out..

That's correct. You do take off the pressure plate and disc like normal. Now you have to remove the DMF like it's a torque convertor. There are eight bolts that you access from the access hole on the engine side of the alluminum adapter. It will be very cumbersome and will be very hard to handle after you get six of those out. I did it alone, but really don't recommend doing it this way. That DMF weighs around 70 lbs. BE READY when it lets go!!!!!!! After that is out of the way you will have the plate to remove from the crankshaft.

Thanks Chris, I got it off. Yea man the last bolt is a tough one.. I did by myself also. I could hardly keep it from hitting the floor.. lol I slowed the piece of junk just enough to keep from chipping my concrete.. Anyone need an anchor?
The part with springs moves freely over 1 inch back and forth before it touches the springs.. Looks like the springs have shrunk/collapse. I bet that is the source of all the growning noise Ive had lately..
The T/O bearing was gone too.. The pressure plate springs are bent about 1/2 inch from one side to the other.. That would explain the wore out T/O bearing.
Man I'm glad to get that piece of junk out of my truck!
