Stop and Go With Auto

I have a job that requires me to stop and go. I will possibly drive 100ft and then stop, exit the truck then get right back in and go another 100ft.I repeat this around 300-400 times in around 5-6hrs.

My Question is - would it be better for me to leave it in drive and use my
E-Brake rather than going from Park to Drive every time. Is there a possibility this could over heat the Tranny? I do not pull-haul anything during this time.

There is times however where I will drive a 1/2mile at 30-40 MPH until my next stop (not very often).

Thanks for your info and advice.

I wouldn't throw it in park. I would just put it in Neutral and use the E-brake so the fluid keeps circulating through the tranny cooler. That is what I do. and tranny temps stay in check.

OK so you go to neutral and use E-Brake. So in Neutral the trans fluid still pumps?
Would leaving it in drive and setting the E-Brake simulate stop and go traffic or is that no good for the trans for long periods?

Would you recommend a trans temp gauge? If so which would you recommend.

More of a safety issue.

Yeah that I can see that.
Will it damage the tranny going in and out of drive that way?

I would just go to neutral as mentioned above. In park the pump does not operate, so your fluid will not be circulating in park to cool your transmission.
I would say neutral and e brake.

A tranny temp gauge is a good idea. For that matter a full gauge set is a good idea. Pricol, Autometer, Isspro, Westach, or an electronic gauge like the Commander are all good products. I run a Commander and monitor tranny temp, engine coolant, EGT, and lift pump pressure at the same time.

It is my understanding that leaving the engine in drive and setting the brake will create extra wear on the clutch packs. I would think neutral would be the best choice.

I say neutral and e-brake as well...but keep in mind that you will want to check the e-brake adjustment on a MUCH more regular basis than what is called for in the owner's manual which is 15000 miles...I think that your use of the e-brake would be considered pretty extreme...
