Steering Box Failure on 05

Has anybody had problems with the steering box puking all of the fluid out of it? It appears there is a vent in the cover of the box and that is where it is all coming from. The pump is dry and both hoses are dry. Truck started whining last night when I hit the brakes and when I would turn. Checked the fluid and it was almost dry. Got a buddy to bring me some fluid and limped it home.

The vents on the cap may be plugged which will cause overflow.Had that problem myself just see if the cap pops off after you run it awhile.Be carefull it pops pretty good.

Can you give me a little further detail. Are you talking about the cap on the reservoir? This is not where mine is leaking. It appears that there is a vent on the steering box itself. I can't see it but it feels like a metal line that is coming out of the cover on the box but it's maybe an inch long and doesn't have anything on the end of it. It's just open.

If the reservoir cap is plugged it builds pressure in the pump and starts to leak.Just take it for a drive and then slowly loosen the cap if it flies then the cap is plugged.

When I took the cap off last night to check to fluid it had a vacuum on it. Where was yours leaking fluid when the cap was plugged?

I can't say exactly but i had asmall amount of fluid leaking from the top of the pump maybe an ounze. They could'nt figure out why it was leaking, they idled the truck ect but it had to be driven and then sit for awhile and then it would ooze out.I drove there one day and the service manager came out undid the reservoir cap and it shot in the air.Grabbed a cap from a differant truck stuck it in and it has,nt leaked since.I'm not sure what solution you need for a pump that has vacuum .

I have heard of a few steering boxes having problems with running 37's but it doesnt sound like it is leaking from the sector shaft or the box itself. Could be a sign that the pump or box is starting to go poop.

Those of you running 37's or larger should consider getting the sector shaft reinforcement/sway bar drop bracket combo that member XLR8R is now selling. I'm only running 33.5's and I will probably get one in the near future.

It's definitely leaking from the box. I just haven't been able to determine where. All the hoses are dry and the pump is dry. Seems to be coming from the vent in the top of the box.

my box is leaking now, my buddy says to replace it before it gets bad-they tend to grenade when overheated. My boss gets 30% dodge parts
