Question Squeal coming from rear end wheels????

Hey all,
I have just noticed a squeal coming from my rear end at the wheels. It is on both sides. I hear it when i start rolling and slowing down. It doesn't get louder with more speed. Could this be my U-Joints? Any other ideas??
Thanks all,
Eric

Check your rear pads for wear and make sure the caliper slides aren't stuck.

Update. I found the squeak, i believe it's coming from around the carrier bearing area... It squeaks in one spot as the drive shaft turns. Any new ideas???
Thanks all,
Eric

U-joint would be my guess. You've got one going out. Look for the red dust.

I did both of mine myself a couple of months ago (one was squeaking, needle bearings ground to dust), $35/ea IIRC for grease-able, lifetime warranty from Napa autoparts.

Not too bad a job but you'll need a big press to get them out of the yokes.

Thanks a lot, i'll take a look at napa. I'm def going with grease-able joints. Does anyone else have any preferences on which brand and wheres a good place to get them?? If anyone has links that would be awesome.

In case you cant tell im illiterate on this stuff!! lol. But i sure as heck am not paying the dealer 350.00 to replace 2 of them!!!

Well new update. I jacked the rear end of my truck up and got a better listen. Its definitely coming from the rear u-joint where its going into the rear end and not from around the carrier bearing. I just hope its still the u joint and not in the pumpkin

I have had the same problem with my rear tires squealing under acceleration. I just don't accelerate as hard now and the problem went away.

Don't cheap out and don't worry about getting greasable ones, those are the cheapies most of the time anyway. Get a set of Spicer u-joints pressed in and be done with it. The zerk fitting holes make them weaker that is why quality ones will not have them.
