Speedometer fix

I upgraded to Nitto 285/75/17's, and I know my speedometer is off now. I called the dealership and they wanted $175 to replace the gear on the transmission for the speedometer cable. U know the Smarty will correct this issue, but I don't have a Smarty. Is there another way to correct the speedometer? ??

I waited 5 years, before getting the Smarty Jr. I wish, I would have got it sooner. Just put that $175 towards one, would be my suggestion. By the way, look at the classifieds. Last I checked, there were a couple on there. I bought the Smarty for the same reason, (to adjust speedometer). All the rest of the benefits are just "gravy". Just don't go crazy with the skinny pedal and you will most likely see, even better mileage. How long have you had the Nittos?

I've git about 2000 miles on them now. Had them about 1month or so. I had 245/75/17 BFG A/T. I was inly getting 60 MPH at 1950 RPM. I had ti do something so I was close on tires anyways. It was either tires or a lower ratio rear end. I think I'll do just that, and out that money towards the Smarty. That way I can justify the price with better mileage.

If your tight on money just find another member that has a smarty. You can adjust tire height on more than one truck at a time. The easiest way to adjust is to use a good gps and match the m.p.h. with your speedo and adjust as necessary. Good Luck!

I thought the Smarty was tied to one truck no matter what... if that's not the case concerning the tire height, then I need to make some new friends! !

I could be wrong but I thought that that tire size was supplied from the factory in 06 for the Power Wagon models. And, that means that the dealer does not have to change any gears, rather its an available setting in the ECM. It would not cost you anything to ask.

I called another dealership to see about getting it changed. The "advisor" I spoke with was almost guessing at what needed to be done. And still wanted ti charge me $125 for "about an hours " worth of work. Guess u may just have to live with it until I can buy a Smarty.

OK, I just called my local dealer here in San Marcos and he said sure they could change it as long as that tire setting size was available in the ECM. I then asked the charge and was told $100.00.

Oh wait, I do know. I had the dealer reflash the tipm after I went from 265s to 285s. It was $52 at my dealer.

If you get a chance run your truck and have a handheld gps to get an idea of just how far off your speedo is. Mine is close, with 1-1.5mph.

I went online and found a couple of rpm and MPH calculators. At 60, I'm running about 66. And my indicated 64.5 is about 72ish. But my odometer is gonna be off as well. Just makes it harder ti figure out exact MPG,'s.

LMAO!! Gotta love a dealer that doesn't have a clue.

Likely the dealer can't do it anyway as there ar enot enough selctions to hit every tire size. Smarty will adjust for all of them. Use a GPS to validate is the best way.

I guess Smarty 's are just that much better than the dealership if it will change the ECM without having to change a specific gear ratio out... And th's dealer can't it doesn't want to help.
