Last Saturday, I was heading north from my place to do some halibut fishing with a couple of friends. While going down the freeway, my truck just flat died. I was able to coast to an off-ramp and on to the other side, where I waited. I tried to start it a couple of times, and it would run for about a second, then die. I figured to myself that the lift pump finally died. I was towed to a dealer just 11 miles away.
On Monday, I was in the area for work and swung into the dealer and talked with the tech who diagnosed it, and I was right, the lift pump was dead. He pointed out a few other things he found in his inspection, such as needing a computer re-flash and a leak between the tranny and transfer case. I gave the ok to do that work.
My question concerns the re-flash. He said I had version AH and the re-flash would be version AN. Is there any place I can go to find out what the re-flash actually does? Any ideas as to what the re-flash does?
By the way, the truck has 167,000 miles on it, and this is the first real thing to go wrong with the truck. I do the normal maintenance on it myself. It is mostly a daily driver, with one or two times a year towing a fifth-wheel, but only for the last couple of years. Before that, I would carry a p/u camper and tow a boat once a year.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
DMH

I don't know the answer, but maybe it shows up here if you want to look through the various TSBs listed as flashes for 04 models.

Alternately, just call the dealer and ask.
Good luck!

I'm normally a big fan of dealer re-flashes but in this case be advised you'll get the back -up alarm "feature" (if you don't already have it) that you 'll absolutely loath...
A good dealer will warn you about it before re-flashing.
Also, I assume you have the engine-mounted lift pump and they are moving it to the tank? There are other options.
