Smokin 600's
How many of you all have a 600 that smokes like it's bombed when you get on it? Taking off normally, then getting on it in 3rd or 4th gear, I get a heavy puff initially, then thinning gradually as the turbo spools, completely gone by the top of the next gear. Anybody else? Only mods are the Home Depot airbox and the muffler eliminator. I also get decent mileage (16.5-17 @ 70 mph) and my oil doesn't do anything crazy besides turn black quick. I run Rotella DFA for additive, tried Diesel Kleen by Power Service, did the same thing but more so seemed like.
For the "Smokes a little" fellas, do you have the stock exhaust on there? Beginning to wonder if I'm making the same amount of smoke, just the absence of the muffler is making it more pronounced?
Well FWIW, both of my 600s smoke(d) about the same... only really noticeable on occasion in the mornings, especially when I'm getting on it after cruising at low RPMs for a bit, like getting onto a freeway onramp... Then the smoke gets fairly thick. It's not black smoke, more like grey...

when the smoke rolls......
Mine does smoke some.
I notice the smoke only when accelerating from moderate thorttle posistion to 3/4 throttle. And it will only happen when you roll into it. Intrestingly this is the same technique that would cause the infamous miss fire/white smoke condition the very first 600's had. I know....I had one.
It almost seems like the engine goes to a different setting or something. Reminds me of the variable valve train in many modern car engines. Kinda kicks in. Other than that my truck has no noticeable smoke. I do get some soot on the rear bumper though. And when you roll into the throttle you deffiently can puff the guy behind ya!
I would perfer it if it didn't smoke but I also think it is fairly normal.

Right side of rear bumper gets black a lot and other than at night with some jerk on my tail and I shower down on it to leave him sittin', I have not seen any smoke (no matter how hard I try).
3000 on the ticker now and she's loosening up and has a mean growl now . Smokes pretty good I have noticed when I get into it in 3rd or 4th ........... has a grey color to it . Sure do love pulling up to little punks and their tricked out rice burners and letting that sweet diesel smell fill the car
