Slipping tranny on take off.

Lately when starting from dead stop the rpms jump to almost 2k before the truck starts moving ahead. If I remember correctly 1,500 was the point when I would get some decent forward motion.

Is that an indication of the first gear band adjustment being off?

All my other shift points are perfect and firm.

Thanks

Ron W.

OP back again, still looking for answers on my tranny issue. My 48re has lost its punch on take off. Even without the camper behind it the truck is slow to move off the line, no matter how much throttle I give it, not until I hit 2k does it start to move out quickly. All other shifts are perfect.

I don't think it's the torque converter because it locks up like a champ in OD. Enough so that it often gives me some turbo bark when its locking up.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Ron.

I think you answered your own question: check the band torque. I would start with properly checking your ATF level though (flat, warm, in neutral). Amazing how being just a little low on ATF will mess things up. Hopefully it's something simple.

Thanks for the reply....worth double checking fluid level.

Now that I'm home and have access to a torque wrench I'll adjust the band tension.

Next step will be to pull the pan, drain the fluid and see if any obvious bits & pieces in the bottom.
