Slight lag in firing

My new to me 2004 Dodge diesel 3500 has a very slight lag in the time it takes to fire the engine, this is compared to my old 12 Valve Cummins.

On the 12 valve you would turn the switch and bang the engine would fire as close to instant as you can get..

With the new truck there is a very slight lag time, would this be the time it takes for the electric lift pump to start and pump fuel compared to the mechanical lift pump on my 1995 12 valve engine.????

Should I hold the key a bit longer in the run position before turning to start or is this a symptom of something going wrong in the fuel delivery system????

The lag time is not very much...

Completely normal. The newer trucks use a CPS to determine when to fire. Takes a couple of turnovers to figure it out.
