And when I barely keep my finger on the **** of the x-fer case shifter it goes away...
Some of you wouldn't even notice this noise...

It seems to come on if I hit small bumps or accelerate hard at highway speeds...
If I keep slight pressure on the x-fer case shifter the noise will not come on...

I'm not trying to be the Grim Reaper of transissions, but when my 97 3500 started grinding in 5th gear, it was TOAST about 1,000 miles later. If i held the shifter, the gear noise was less. But when you said transfer case ****, I stumped. May be have some one look at 5th gear and see if the nut has backed off.

The noise is only present in 5th because of the high rate of speed I have to be going to get the transfer case shifter to make any noise...
My tranny is fine...
