Skid plate worth it?

I have a 4x4 and am considering picking up the transfer case skid plate. Dealership wants $115 for it. I haven't seen it. For those of you that ordered the protection package and got the skid plate, do you think its worth $115. Is it sturdy and well made, or just a thin piece of metal.

What do you get for the price? I have the skid plate and it is bolted between to frame cross members, one in front and behind the transfer case. Does your truck already have the front crossmember, it looks like its only purpose is to hold the plate? If the price includes the front cross member, then that is probably a fair price. If you already have the member and are only paying for the plate, then I would say no its not worth it, but I am not familiar with normal prices for skid plates.
It is a well made plate, not extremely heavy duty but I would think you could buy a piece of flat plate and drill a few holes for a lot less. Maybe someone makes an after market one.

Skid plate is only worth it if you have it and use it. What I mean is, if you run something over and have no skid plate, is it worth it? I think so.

Any junk yards in your area? I'd check there. Mine came with a skid plate and it is good piece of mind for me.
Use dealer as a last resort.

Best -

I have one I took off my '06. I didn't like the way it hung down. You pay the shipping and you can have it.

It is worth it. I have hammered mine already. Drove my last truck for 11 years over some rough country and didn't use it once. Take the new one out for a day drive and missed the cross ditch and hammered it hard. I might have been walking. Aluminum cased transfer cases don't like getting hit....
