should i trust local transmission shop?
should i trust local transmission shop?
here's the thing, i am debating on having a local trasmission shop here in Raliegh NC, rebuild my transmission with a suncoast torque converter and billet input shafts. he tells me he can build me one just as good for 4300 dollars. he also told me the only difference between his transmission and suncoasts transmission will be a few more clutches from the suncoast transmission and suncoasts Valve body set up. And suncoast wants 6,000 dollars for there transmission. he is also going to warrenty his transmission for 2 yrs 100,000 miles. almost the same as suncoast with 2 yr unlimited mileage. here's my question to you guys, am i just paying for the name or is suncoast trasmission really that much better and why?
thanks
thanks
Why not buy all the parts and then just pay him to install them.
I know how to build transmissions too and I built many 727s back in the day when I was drag racing. That doesn't mean I know how to build one to withstand 1000ft/lb of torque from a Cummins diesel....

here my question dogezilla like you said you have built many trannys okay so if you had the kit with all the same parts from suncoast would your tranny not last just as long as one suncoast builds? just wondering cause i have built a few turbo 400 for my chevelle and i always figured if i go with the same stuff as TCI puts in there turbo 400s then its pretty much the same deal, as long as you know the tolerances of the tranny am i right in thinking this? now im not going to try to build my 48re tranny i dont have experince with this but my lets say i have my brother inlaw do it for me who is a dodge and cummins man at the dealer do it what do you think the diff is going to be? Just wondering want to feed my brain and im not going to let my brother inlaw touch my truck i cant stand him although he is a good mec just dont want to listen to him the rest of my life. wonder how many little magic tricks there are in those trannys thats all.
From what I have read yes there are some tricks to get them right. I have also thought about this long and hard. I am not ready to do the tranny yet but a trip to Iowa might be what I do with a Georand tranny. I am just waiting until my 70,000 mile powertrain warranty is up. I may use a local guy that works at the local dealership that is good with trannies to install the parts. I just haven't made up my mind. If I had a lift and a tranny jack I would do it myself. I just can't see doing it without. Gettin to old for that. The jury is still out on this one.
