I recently purchased a 03 with an 47RE auto. The tranny was rebuilt 20 k ago and seems to function as expected. I plan to put a TransGo shift kit in it asap as it will see moderate towing (8500 lbs) duty and I am hoping it will at least help the tranny live a little longer with more efficient shifts.

Any thoughts for or against shift kit?

Anyone have any experience with anything other than Mopar ATF +4. Either an equivalent from say chevron or an upgraded fluid like royal purple, lucas?

Run the cheap ATF+4 and change every 20k, no need to run the expensive stuff. Only time I would change is if you have a full build and the builder tells you to run something else, which is pretty common.
