Serpintine Belt Question

OK I bought the belt and looked up the diagram but how do you get the belt off the tensioner?

That spot looks too tight to get the belt between the front cover and the tensioner.

drive belt changing

Lay it flat and squeeze it in there. With the tensioner wrenched over to slack the belt, once it clears one pulley, it'll be easy to remove from the rest. The fan shroud is pretty pliable so you can bend it a lot without hurting it. Is that the spot you're talking about?

Crank down on the tensioner and slide the belt off of the idler pulley first.

To put it back on I loosened the mounting bolt for the tensioner to give a little more room. After the belt was back in place I tightened the bolt.

Thanks for the info and the PDF's! I'll give it a try tomorrow if I get off work early enough.

The tight spot is between the tensioner pully and motor. Seems kinda tight to get the belt between there to get it off and back on. Also the motor was to hot when I tried to change the belt last night so I could not leave my hands in some of the tight spots. I do it cold next try.

I remove the air intake box and also remove the tensioner to get the belt on. Much easier this way.

Belt

On our '03, I do most of it from underneath. I sneak the belt (flat) between the tensioner and block. I also operate the tensioner from underneath. Only thing I do from top side is lay it over alternator and exhaust brake vacuum pump. I personally think it is easy.

I broke down and got a Goodyear gatorback belt to see if that would make my squealing go away. It worked! No more other belts for me! It's got a lifetime warranty too.....

This time I got the whole topside situated and finished from the bottom. Very easy this way once you get the belt on the tensioner. I just cranked down on the tensioner and slid the belt over the A/C pulley. Easy breezy.....
