Safe trans temp limit?
I had the same question a while back while towing through the mountains... I got up to 219 degrees... Nothing in the manuals... I know my banks PDA has an alarm set at 235 degrees... So I am guessing that would be max temp...
But I still haven't got an straight answer either... I spoke to a mechanic who told me at opperating temp your trans temp should be about the same as engine temp... within a few degrees... and as long as I stayed within that range I would be fine...
Agian, I'm still wondering what the real answer is too!

The temp chart is goood place to look. ATF+4 is a high temp fluid with more durability than previous versions. Fluid will live at 250 degrees. As chart implies it starts to shorten as temps go above. Dozer rule of thumb: When fluid changes from reddish to more brownish, it was time to change before that happened.
