Rushing Noise after Shutdown
Rushing Noise after Shutdown
Can anyone tell me what the rushing sound is after I shut the engine down? It doesn't seem that it happens everytime, just on random shutdowns. It sounds like a pulsing rush of air or liquid or something.

I work in the HVAC field, and can tell you what you are hearing is your refrigerant equalizing in your cooling/heating system, even when you use the heat the refridgerant still cycles.
I have not heard my turbo make a spool down noise yet.I do hear my a/c equalize often but have not noticed it doing so when not in use.Refrigerant will migrate to the coldest place in the system so it could be a freon noise even though its not been running.(20 years of burning fingers with -40 degrees).

I don't know. I would think that the turbo would just spool down and be done. This is a repeated rushing sound. It'll do it mayebe 5-10 times.

Ok, today I listened specifically for it after driving the same road home from work, letting it sit & idle when in the garage for about 1 minute and then shutdown....and nothing....well, I heard the turbo spool down (yes, it is cool) but I didn't hear the repeated rushing again.. hmm?

The A/C compressor will run when you call for defrost. The little A/C light on the dash won't be on but the A/C system is working just like it does on a hot day and you have the A/C on. The A/C runs during the defrost mode to pull moisture out of the air.
Maybe you were in defrost mode?

I'll have to check the dial, but I don't believe I even had the blower on. The other dial never moves in my truck. I think its always on the dot between Floor and 'defrost.' Maybe thats it. I like it up there because I don't like the air blowing on my face, but I didn't realize that setting caused the A/C to run or that it pulled moisture from the air. I thought it was just directing the blown air to another location.
