running temp

I have an 06 2500 with about 22k on the odo. My question is what should the temp gauge be reading at a highway speed of 60mph on an 85 degree day? My guage in the dash reads about 190-200. When I pull my 6000lb trailer it goes a little over 200. This is my first cummins diesel and I think that temp is a little on the high side. It is in the shop now having th ps pump replaced and I want them to check the fan clutch if this seems high. Thanks in advance for any answers.

Hey there! Nope, your temp is EXACTLY NORMAL!! THese trucks have a 190-195 thermostat in them and NEED to run a little hotter because of the 3rd injection event in the fuel burning process My truck will usually ( 06 and 07) run on the 200 exactly half way on the guage just driving around town on a warm day.. which we have a LOT of!!! LOL If I am pulling my horse trailer ( Living quarters w/ 3 horses) it will easily reach 210 on long hard pulls then back off to 200 or maybe 195. I did add a royal purple product called " Purple Ice" it works GREAT... LOwered my around town temps to 190-195 and when I pull it still gets to 210 but cools off Immediatly!! Good stuff!! Hope that helps, your temps sound normal!

My 05 shows temp just shy of the 200* mark and a little over that when pulling a grade.
Yours sounds normal to me.

Thanks guys, I have heard of fan clutch failures in the 06's and wanted to make sure mine was normal.

I don't doubt there are some infant mortality issues, but this is the first I've heard of fan failures.

At any rate, I have a 'real' gauge.

Empty water temp runs 190-210 depending on ambient temp (85-115) and merging onto the freeway or getting off.

Loaded...I have not seen it above 210-215 on 100F days....Sorry, don't tow too much in the summer...too bloody hot to fish during the day!

HTH
