run away motor

Hello,i bought a 2006 mega cab with a salvage title on it had it in body shop straighting the frame. When they got it done the battery was dead and still on hoist so they tilted the hoist down on an angle nose down and charged battery for acoulple hours that way and when they started it clucked over hard and then fired up and reved too 3 thousand rpms and wouldn't shut off they had to pinch the fuel line off to shut her down , what would cause that.I picked it up yesterday and it was fine when I started it, any thoughts thanks

I have seen where oil leaking through the turbo into the intercooler will cause this.

If it was an oil leak restricting fuel wouldn't shut it down......

Was it exposed to paint fumes?

I once inquired about a brand new truck on e-bay that said bad engine/trans and hole in the passenger floorboard.

Turns out it was one of those maroon ones that had paint defects, and the engine ran away when started in the paint booth. Guy put it in high and dropped the clutch to try to stall the engine, but it chucked the clutch.

Had a similar issue with my truck once before. It would idle fine, but the second I touched the throttle it would rev wide open and I had to quickly shut the truck down. I eventually found that one of the wires going to the wastegate solenoid on the turbo was broken, most likely from being agitated every time the oil filter was changed. Fixed the wire and the problem was solved, or possibly could be a bad solenoid on your part too.

If it hung at a bit over 3k I would also suspect electrical glitch or something with the APPS.

If it had unlimited oil or fumes to run on, I would have expected it to burry the tach until it bent valves.

Anyway if it were mine I think I'd look at the turbo and check for oil, if only for peace of mind.
