There is a solonoid on the cp3 pump that they replaced on my 05 that was making my truck do that same thing. It would surge ahead and act like i was still giving it fuel. Might be worth a shot to check out. Took the dodge guy about five minutes to replace it. ONly time that I ever got out of dodge in under 30 min.

I am getting a lot of info that this is an FCA problem.

I don't know if a sticky fca though would cause some diesel to get into the oil. Is there any way to check the turbo seal?

I have had gassers all my life...this is all new to me....lucky for me this forum exists.

I have just had a turbo seal problem. It would smoke a white/ blue color though. Not black like normal. The easiest way to tell on mine was the oil in the downpipe. Don't know if that helps or not. Also wouldn't really smoke off boost(start, idle), but as soon as I got a couple of psi it would start smoking a bit.

Not to alarm you or anything, but I had a 2005 Ram with the same problems.
It started out the same thing you described and eventually, the whole thing just fell apart. I bought the truck with 50,000 miles on it and the problems started just a week or two after I bought it. It started out acting like the fuel was sticking after I would let off the pedal and I would have to knock it into neutral to get it to idle down. At Idle, you could rev it up, and it would continue to rev to about 2500 rpm and on its way down, it would spit and sputter and the rpms would jump up and down like it was missing. The dealership replaced 3 injectors, but the problem still existed. Oh, and while doing about 65 to 70, it developed a very rough vibration that would go away when a load was put on it.
Finally, on yet another trip to the dealer, I was climbing a rather steep mountain, doing about 75 when all of the sudden, I heard a loud pop. The whole truck shook, and a cloud of black smoke came from the tail pipe. I let off the accelerator, but the truck kept chugging along, running rough as hell and only about 35 to 40 mph, with black and blue smoke pouring out the tail pipe. I limped the next 5 or so miles to the dealership and pulled into the service bay, shaking my head and ate up with frustration.
Anyhow, it ended up dropping a valve from #6 cylinder, chewing it up and then sending it through the turbo, eating up the gasket and causing the truck to run away on its own from burning the engine oil from the turbo. Cummins replaced the engine under warranty.
Now I don't think the valve dropping and injector problems were related. I just wrote that motor off as improper maintenance from the previous owner and a dud from the factory and made the mistake of trading that truck off for a 6.0 powerjoke. But now, I'm back in a brand new 2007 5.9 CTD Ram and loving every minute of it.

im having this same exact issue, most people are saying injectors, ive alrerady replaced the fca no luck there, ive seen some say maybe Thorttle position sensor but not sure that would cause it to keep fuelling with no throttle so im guessing injectors just $3,000 to get them replaced is insane so waiting till i can buy the injectors and tools and do it my self.

Not to start another thought but could this also be an APPS problem? When my APPS started to fail it would cause the engine to rev but most times would cause a limp mode right after the rev. I replaced my APPS with one from TIMBO on this site and never had another issue. Might be worth checking out if you are not having luck finding your trouble.
