Either Amsoil 15w-40 or the Mobil 1 Delvac/Truck & SUV are superb oils for your truck.
You're in Ft Worth, or HOT area and I would recommend a 15w-40 oil year round.
I live down the road from you )Ft Hood area, and ran the Amsoil 15w-40 year round with no complications. Also, there's an Amsoil Distribution Center in Dallas.
Oh, I don't know where people get the 30K recommendation on changing over to synthetics. Go to the Cummins webpage under FAQ's and you see anywhere from 5-20k. I changed the factory fill at 3k to another factory fill and then changed to the Amsoil at 7500k.
"Is it OK to use synthetic oil with my Cummins engine?
Cummins recommends that you not use synthetic motor oil during the break-in period of 5000-20,000 miles, based on the type of driving, to allow proper seating of the piston rings. Beyond that mileage it is OK to use synthetic."
Just change your oil and filter every 7500K (sched. B) and you'll be fine.

Thanks all for the replies. Looks like I will be changing to Amsoil next oil change. Ive been using their diesel clean additive too and It works pretty well keeping the ticking down to a minimum.

but I have been looking just about every time I go in Wally World and haven't seen a jug yet that has CI-4 on it. It always says it meets CH-4 only, which is the wrong spec for the 3rd Gen engines. The standard multigrade 15w40 Rotella on the shelf right next to it clearly states it meets the CI-4 spec. Makes you wonder, so I just stay away from it. VPB Extreme is fairly easy to find up here and clearly states it meets CI-4, so I run it instead.
