replacing my 48re with a g56

i know there is a lot of work and parts to do this but will i have to change the crossmember, transfercase,or driveshaft
and will the computer need to be updated

i have already blown 2 48re trannies and think that a standard would be better

thanks

why not just pull your motor, sell it and put an old 12 valve in it along with a 5 or 6 speed

that would be easier

sell the truck you have now and buy a standard.
there is a ton of computer stuff you would need to change to do this conversion.
I just don't see it being cost effective.

have you tried lemon law??

I am just curious to know what you are doing to your truck that you have already blown 2 trannies? This is on the 2006 you have in your sig right? If you have an auto and are pulling 20,000 lbs often, thats silly. Trade in for a standard.

I read in your profile what you are doing. I pull a take 3 step deck and have had no problems with my 48re trucks, but we run a 4.10 axle, and leave the engine stock. Running a Bullydog chip on an auto or G56 pulling a 3 car trailer every day you are going to have problems with either transmission. Chips have no business being on a truck used for commercial service day in day out pulling a 3 or 4 car trailer, the entire truck is going to have durability issue's. If you had a 4.10 axle and no chip and, drove decent(not saying you don't) I think you'd be fine. At least I have been. My 92' in my gallery is still set at stock power and has got 300k miles of commercial service under its belt and still has it's original clutch and getrag tranny, they are getting tired, but their still getting the job done.

Not really, youd have a truck that in my opinion, nobody would buy. I wouldn't want a truck that new, that had been hacked on that much.

do pull a heavy trailer 13000 to 20000 lbs
havent used bullydog on new tranny
13000 to 16000 is ok if i baby it but 17000 is scary once the tranny gets hot
and i dont think i should have to baby a $50,000 truck with the best motor in the 1 ton class if i knew better i would have got a 6 speed

try and adapt the wiring from the aisin to the older ECM would be a nightmare, IMO, the g56 swap would still be easier then an aisin swap.
the g56 wouldn't that much of a challenge.
