Rearend gear ratio question

Will the VIN have the rearend gear ratio in it? The r.e. on my 06 is howling pretty bad, I have a parts truck with a complete r.e. under it & i'd like to see if it matches mine. Thanks for any help.

Take the VIN and give it to the parts guy at a dealer. He can tell you what it came with stock, as long as it hasn't been changed.

Check the sticker in the glovebox. That should tell you what it came with.

People keep talking about this "sticker in the glove box"

Mine doesn't have one-or as far as I can see. Anyone got a picture of what this looks like ?

They stopped putting the sticker in the glove box in 05 or 06 I think.

What trans and what are your rpms at 70mph?

My 06 doesn't list the gear ratio anywhere that I can find. I bought the truck new and have all the window stickers etc. I thought that in 06 there was only one ratio 3.73 offered on all diesels. It that wrong?

I have the 6 sp manual tranny. I think the rpm's at 70 are around 2500. I'll have to watch. The dealership told me good news both of the trucks have 3.73's in them, so it looks like a rearend swap out. Thanks for the info guys!

Not the window sticker, an actual sticker the is in the glove box on most rigs with all the options.

3.42's were first offered in MY08, all G56's in 05-07 have 3.73's.

The 3.73 are the standard gear and are not generally listed on the option list in the truck. If it had something other than standard it would be listed.

Not if you have a manual transmission you don't... The G56 has never been offered with 4.10's..

The OD ratio of the G56 in 06 is so short that it has the same final drive ratio as a NV-5600 with 4.10's, so its easily confused.

Stock tires and 3.73's

60 1939rpms
70 2262rpms
80 2585rpms

Stock tires and 4.10's (which is why it's not offered)

60 2131rpms
70 2486rpms
80 2842rpms

Thanks for the detailed response. Those numbers explain a lot of what I've experience with my '06 six speed.
