Rear Wheels Loose And Vibration???
Rear Wheels Loose And Vibration???
Okzay, back to my most reliable resource for advice. DTR!
I noticed a vibration in the truck on the way to work this morning. I pulled over on the highway to check the lugs on the rear tires as i just got new ones installed.
All lugs are tight so i got beck on the road and noted where i noticed the vibration most.
Its in the rear axle or drive shaft cause its most noticable around 60 MPH.
I just dod the ujoints on the driveshaft about 5k ago but not with the greaseable ones
.
I noticed when i grabbed te tires and pushed them back and fourth they both have a sligt "knock" in them. Like their loose. Its not bad but im not sure if its normal.
Ive never torn into the rear axle before so im not sure if there is normally any play in them. Could the entire axle and hub assembaly be loose? maybe a wheel bearing?
I also crawled under the truck to tough around the drive shaft. Its hard to tell with the shaft still o the truck but the u joints seem good. They all move but dont have any slop in them.
Could the vibration be low diff oil or transfer case fluid?
Thats my next check.
I just wanted others opinion before i really rip into this tonight.
Thanks guys.

It could be the wheel bearing, if there's an obvious knock and play. It doesn't take long to drop your drive shaft again and check for any binding. I did a U-joint and a week later had a vibration, it ended up being the other U-joint that tested just fine the week prior. You never know with them! Check the joints and really check the wheels again for play.
Did you get new tires or new lugs?

Im almost positive its the one and only u joint i didnt replce the last time i had the drive shaft down.
Though, i still feel play in the rear wheel. but only if the tire is on the ground and i yank on it hard.
If the rear is off the ground, i cant feel a thing.
How hard is it to replace rear wheel bearings?
thanks
