rear main seal change

I was driving through vegas yesterday and looked under my truck, I had oil all over everything under the engine. It looks like its leaking between the engine and tranny I was wondering how hard it is to change the seal and what special tools are needed?
Its leaking a quart every hundred miles so it has to be fixed. I also noticed every now and then the pyro gauge would start going crazy, I would shut the truck down and everything would be fine. Im thinking there might be an injector sticking too. I could not smell diesel in the oil but I thought it was higher on the dipstick. any advice would be helpfull I have to have it running by the end of the week.

Not sure about your injector issue but when I replaced my clutch I too noticed a significant amount of oil dripping from the bellhousing. I went to the local Freightliner dealership to order my rear main seal (WAYYYY cheaper than Dodge) and they told me to replace the o-ring on the back of the cam. Pulled the tranny and come to find out the rear main was hardly leaking at all. That little 0-ring was the cause of the leak. Had everything tore apart so went ahead and replace the rear main too, better safe than sorry. Good luck.

It's common to have that O ring behind the cam leaking...........always worth replacing while it's apart.

if you rengine is making oil (oil level increasing) you may have a high pressure leak, does it have a chip on it?
