Rear End Temperature

I have noticed that the rear end on these trucks get pretty hot. I have paced my hand on the cover after driving unloaded for about 1/2 hour at ~70 mph and it is hot to the touch. I was wondering what is normal temperture. This concerns me because I pull ~9,000 lb travel trailer.
