Rear Differnetial Fluid Revisited
Wow!!!.. That new Mag-Hytec cover REALLY looks good under the truck.... think its about time to order the front one!!!... BTW, got it full of Valvoline 75/140 synthetic, its the only 140 I could get locally.
Question about clearance for those of you who already have the Hy-Tec cover..... It looks as though if you squatted the rear of the truck enough, the cover would hit the spare tire.... Is there a clearance issue there???
I plan on pulling some heavy loads with this truck, (hay, tractor, horses..etc) Just wondering if its gonna hit, thanks..

I have not had any problems with clearance at all, the pin weight on my 5ver is over 2k plus another 150-200#s of fire wood in the bed of the truck and its not even close to the spare.

I have 35" tires, so my spare is a 35". It is real tight in the spare/diff cover area, could possibly hit with a load pulling downward. I installed the Firestone Ride Rite air bags and keep them aired up right at 15-20lbs, have a little over 1" of clearance that remains constant with a 1K GN pin weight. Simple solution to have the best of all 3 worlds - Mag Hytec, 35" tires and the ability to tow heavy loads.

I used the Amsoil Severe Gear 75w140 in both the front and rear diffs. Hot road temps here in NM, plus I tow heavy loads. I installed the MagHytec covers, front and rear, you will need 12 quarts to fill both.
DC came out with a service memo to the dealerships, last summer I think, anyway they are no longer recommending 75w90 in the AAM axles, they upped it to 75w140.
I contacted AAM when I was planning my fluid change, they told me to use the 75w140.
