starting problems revisited

Well its been probably 6 weeks and 5k miles later and not once has the starting problem happened, cranking, smoking etc, I became so paronoid after all that, and didnt want to get stuck again. I know it sounds crazy but My last question about this was directed at the computer self diogonisis when the key is turned on. So since I have ALWAYS turned the key on and waited for the light to go out. I have yet to have the problem.. The other day for the first time I jumped in after it was driven prior, warm etc, and fired it up without waiting for the computer to self diag, and it started, but when I took off it momentarily cut out then kept going. I have been able to do this twice so far. Anybody know how to do an exersism on a CTD computer or???
Mystery?? Thanks Apache.

What year is your truck? On my 1993, the computer is only there for the cruise control, and the fourth clutch (overdrive) in the transmission (computer controlled). Other than that, the engines on 1st gen trucks are completely mechanical. The computer will not cause it to (not start).
Re:starting problems revisited

The wait to start light gets its reading from the intake temp sensor and ksb sensor. If under a certain temp, the KSB sends a signal to the wait to start light, as well as the intake temp sensor which activates the grid heaters. However, this will not cause a no start situation unless VERY cold.

On the back of the pump, you will see a round object with 2 spade terminals running to it. That is your fuel shutdown solenoid. Bad terminal ends will cause the symptom you are having. Running down the road and just dying like you turned the key off etc. I cut the old plastic covered terminal ends off and replaced with new. No problems since.
