hey guys i am new to this forum, and i am new to the dodge diesel i just went out and bought a new 06 about a month ago and i was wondering if a lound rattle or knocking was normal when shutting off the engine? i know the shaking is normal cause the compression in the engine but i have never herd a diesel knock/ rattle when shutting down. thanks ben

 

i have a 06 and when i turn it off it sounds something like a knocking just when i turn it off. If it is knocking when you are driving you may want to look into it, but i think that what you are hearing is the rattling of the engine shutting down

 

Mine does shake perty good when i turn it off. I would say its normal.

 

If you have a manual tranny it's recommended to engage the clutch when shutting down. Takes some of the strain off of the dual mass flywheel.

wow thanks for the fast replys, i have the auto tranny, but i know the shake is normal but i wasnt sure of the knocking / rattle cause it is pretty loud and i have not seen to many other ctd where i live its all the new junk ford 6.0 litr. so the knocing is normal thats is a really good thing to hear cause i was getting worried casue i can hear it in the cab of my truck when i shut it down!

 

upon turning the truck off it knocks really bad and to me it sounds like its getting louder? it could be my head but is this a normal thing for them to make a knocking like noise upon shut off?

 

mines been doing it since i bought it over a year ago. It seems some are quiter than others but nothing has gone wrong yet.

 

it just doesn not seem right everytime i shut my truck off this knock bothers me makes me feel like something is wrong with my truck?
