rattle sound

Last post for now yall, my 03 has about 70000 miles on it now and it seems that in the last 10k miles the engine noise level has become more rattled sounding, almost like a ping any ideas or thoughts?, regular main., valve adj. about 15K ago

I read somewhere that the new CTD's start to get more rod knock the more miles they get on them. I noticed this with my truck with 22k miles. Sitting next to a brand new CTD the other day and I couldnt even hear their truck. Mine has gotten a little more rod knock.

Me too

I also noticed this. I have been chasing the noise down since day one. I can hear it on a stock setting as well as the Quad Race on 65 (or any higher) It's only at certain RPMs that you hear it. Sounds kinda like a rattle. If you coast it goes away, if you get on the gas hard, it goes away, just one sweet spot that it really has the sound to it. I can say that with the quad box on, the noise is more noticible (turn it off sound is still there, but quieter) I thought it was fuel related but have checked just about everything, not sure there's anything else. It dosn't sound like a loud knock but not sure what it is. I think it may be rod noise. Mine only started doing it once I pased 18,000 miles. I'm just going to run it, and if something happens, then it happens. I can't find the noise with nothing breaking.

I seriously doubt that the noise has anything whatsoever to do with connecting rod bearings. Chances are, since it disappears at no fuel and full fuel settings, it's combustion related.

I have 93000 miles on my truck and I'm pretty sure its injectors. My truck is bone stock but from what I have heard the quad box will amplify that the injector isn't working right. The quad box doesn't cause it just lets you know something is wrong. If and when my truck gets fixed I will be putting a Quad box on my truck. I had my truck in to the dealer twice and now I'm waiting for some tool that is on national back order. This tool is used to do some test that will diffidently let you know which injector or injectors are bad. I have been waiting for 6 weeks now. PITA

My '05 truck started doing this also 10,400 miles on the truck now. I noticed it starting a few weeks ago. I'm not so sure I want to take it to the dealer yet,for an answer of that it is normal. I run PS/MMO mix every tank. Injectors,L/P not providing enough fuel for the cp3? Any thoughts?

By any chance did you start getting winter diesel in your area a few weeks ago?

I would say going by my fuel milage calculations(hand calc.)that late OCT.my mileage dropped 1.5-2mpg is when we started getting winter fuel.

Probably combustion...Mine got a little louder after I did the tone ring....But with all of my mods, the truck is way louder than our stocker at work..

Combustion

That's what I thought it might be. The truck has a odd noise, almost like a rattle but kinda like it's cavitating the fuel filter. It dosn't do it in Neutral, or while moving (say your donig 75 put it in N, no noise, rev it to the same RPM, no noise) so it's deffinatly combustion or injector. When I turn the quad off it is almost impossible to hear. Also it only showed up around December (winter fuel) So maybe it's just the fuel ain't as good?? So yeah it's throwing me for a loop. I have a long warrenty, so you know it's all good. I don't drive it crazy, but I don't baby it either. Valves are all good, didn't check for push rods though, i should have while I had the cover off
