Ran out of fuel? Not Really!

2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Mega Cab 5.9l

Yesterday I was just below 1/8 tank. The lo fuel light was not on and the truck quit. I had experienced this once before on a trip and was able to coast to a fuel pump and fill it up, watch in the filter housing until it was full and it started right back up. I have been told that my fuel sock inside the tank is probably gummed up. Does this sound right? Yesterday I had to add 10 gallons of fuel before it would pump to fill the filter housing. I then went and filled her up and it took 15 gallons, telling me that I still had 10 when it quit.

My questions are:
1) Is the sock filter in the tank cleanable/replaceable?
2) Could it be the lift pump starting to fail and not the sock filter?
3) Should I just go ahead and replace the lift pump while I am in the tank?
4) Is there a fuel additive I should try to clean the sock filter prior to dropping the tank?

The computer is not handing out any codes at all.

Any other suggestions/ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Robby

Has it done it at the same level both times?

If it indicated 1/8th and you had 10 gallons left your sending unit is way off. I'd be inclined to drop the tank and find out what's going on.
