Questions on cooling system??
Hey guys! Getting ready to change out my coolant. (Using Zerex G-05). I plan on changing upper and lower radiator hoses, drive belt and tensioner pulley. Do I need to replace hose clamps or are the old ones okay? If not should I replace them with the same type spring clamp or is okay to use the ones you can tighten with a screwdriver? Should I change out the radiator cap? Thanks!
i would change the clamps too. the spring tension will start to fade over time and probably don't have much left being your truck is an '03. the worm drive clamps work well. it's probably a good idea to replace the cap.
If your anywhere around 100k I would also throw a new water pump in while you have the belt off.....its only a couple bolts and a new pump is cheap...they seem to start getting loose and leak around 100k to 130k...if not atleast see if the water pump pulley has any play in it.....
Water pumps and radiator hoses rarely fail on that age truck.Bet radiator hoses aren't even in stock for one.Just me but I'd do a cap and flush and wait till the next flush(3 plus years)before doing anything more to the cooling system.
