Question on a guage cluster

Okay I was wondering if you put a used guage cluster on your truck I know it show the mileage on the cluster but what about the hour meter. Does it show the hour meter on the cluster from the old truck or does it update the hour meter from your own truck? Does the truck ecm keep up with the hours or is it like mileage just the cluster keeps track of it?

For what year, make, and model?? On most digital readouts, the milage and hours are stored in the ECM, not the cluster I believe.

so if I put a used cluster in my truck and the used cluster show 50000 on it is it going to show 50000 on it or is it going to show original miles on the truck.

I think it will show your original milage on your truck. The milage and hours are kept in the ECM memory. The digital odometer in the cluster does not have a memory, it just translates the values from the ECM I think. You can call a dealer to verify. When I was going to get a performance ECM for my Jeep, the dealer needed the old one to "flash" the new one with the original milage.

I put an HD cluster in my 1/2 ton Chevy a few years ago because it had a built-in tranny temp gauge. I had to have the cluster programed with my current mileage and I had to give them my old cluster so they could verify the mileage. I had this done at a shop in Houston that specializes in Delco electronics. This is just my experience.

It makes more sense for the cluster to just show whatever the ECM tells it to, but based on my experience, I doubt this is the case. Hope this helps.
