Question on 2003 California SO

Hi,

I've been a lurker for a while and have been learning all i can before purchasing a new truck. Seeing that i am ready to buy now, I do have several question. Is there any difference between a SO and a California model for 2003? ??? I understand the hp and torque ratings are lower in CA, but does anybody know why? I think i found somewhere that the CA models already have some type of EGR. I know that the possibility of an HO in CA is still unclear for Jan 04 so would I be better off buying a pre jan 04 in a california model? I know that people are rushing to buy pre jan 04 HO models.

Thanks for any help.

Bad news is you can't buy a HO in Cali. All you can get is the 235HP model. :'( :'(

The reason you can't get the HO in California is because of emissions.....California has always been like that. Don't worry, buy your new truck, put a new 4inch exhaust AFE filter and Edge EZ and your truck will definately be H/O.....

Re:Question on 2003 California SO

I know! only 235 hp. :'( The regular SO is 250! Hmm I wonder if class 8 trucks in california have lower power ratings as well?? ???

Thanks for the suggestions chrismez. I assume if I get one with the 48RE transmission it it that it will hold up to the power level equilvalent to the HO if i do decide to chip it. A 48RE is a 48RE or am i missing something here? In your opinion would warranty coverage ever be an issues? Even if I do not exceed the HO power levels?

thanks

Re:Question on 2003 California SO

I have the edge ez on mine and set at 70 HP and 200 Torque. The truck rocks. You might want to put on a bigger exhaust and install EGT gauge. As for the warranty, well if you pull into the shop and they see the edge on your truck, they will void your warranty. As for the exhaust, they will prob not. The guys at edge told me that Dodge could not detect that the Edge had been installed, but who knows?????

The 48RE is holding up well with no problems so far.
