Pulling transfer case, do I need a jack

I need to pull my transfer case to replace the rear seal on the transmission. Anybody have an idea of what the transfer case weighs. My dealer said 175 lbs. Just cant believe that.

I think its a 237,? One ton dually 4x4.

Appreciate any tips. My trany guy is ducking my calls, so I guess I'm going to just do it myself.

Thanks

It is hard to man handle that weight, plus you don't have the room for good leverage. I have pulled many with just a floor jack and a tiedown to help balance it on the jack.

175 does seem a little high. I've done it with no jack, but it really is way easier to use one. It's not worth the risk of dropping it and hurting yourself or breaking it. Not to mention that it's kind off awkwardly balanced.

Yep! When I do a trans or clutch, I put the tranny jack under the tranny and a floor jack under the T-case. Makes life easier for sure.

I just got under mine and slid it back and down on my chest. I then just rolled it off onto the floor. Took out quite a few Muncie 4 speeds when I was a kid that way. I am not a big hairy legged guy either, more like an old fat cheapskate. I have a couple of floor jacks and a tranny jack that I was doing the tranny with, but it just seemed easier and faster to grab it and grunt. I put it back up the same way and it was a little bit of a struggle but I "got er done". I would say it is closer it 100 lbs than 175. Good luck!
