Price for a PRV?

I'm wanting to replace my Rail pressure relief valve on my 03. There is 180K miles on the truck and rail pressure has been declining. I can barely crack 20 KSI even with pressure up on the Smarty and/or my X2 set on kill. There are no hard starting issues and the injector tubes have been retorqued just to be safe (they were not loose).

So, I went to my local Cummins dealer to order a new PRV and I nearly blacked out when I got a price: $354. No doubt, I'm paying full pop list price and all that but holy cow. For a simple little pressure relief valve that is truly a text book example of price gouging. I can't stomach that. I have considered buying the TC diesel valve but I have no core to offer as I need the one on my truck. I guess I will call them and see if I can mail the core back after the new one is installed and get a refund or something. All that is just a huge PITA because of living in Canada....I'd rather just buy one outright....at least that is what I used to think until I got a price.

Anyone else have a better source or know the going rate for a new PRV?

I got mine from TC diesel. Google them. Todd is the owner for $80. And its a modded version I believe far better than the stock version. Mine will hold up to 28,000Ksi. I bought it same time I had to upgrade my CP3. If its fuel system related he has it.

Thanks. Yes, as I stated, I am familiar with the TC Diesel PRV. It was the core part with them that is what I was curious about.

Is the core charge plus the purchase price still less than $354.00?

I'm kinda with the OP about the Cummins prices. They HAVE increased their prices...almost to the rediculous point. I was going to buy a water pump from the local Cummins dealer a couple months back and they quoted me almost $200 for the pump and right at $40 for the t-stat.....NO WAY!!!!!! Went to Genos and got both parts shipped to the door for less than $70. Prices these days have gotten wayyyy outta hand.

No core charge - that is the price for a brand new PRV from Cummins, not a rebuilt unit.

You can buy a whole new rail with new PRV and Rail Pressure Sensor for less than the individual parts. , http://www.hoeslidiesel.com/store/page13.html

The cheapest place I found for PRV and sensor was Motorsportdiesel/wicked diesel. http://www.motorsportdiesel.com/stor...pt-272223.aspx

What a coincedence I was going to check into the same thing . I have 132,000 and last weekend changed fuel filter and oil. Had to prime it 3-5 times normal to fill up fuel canister but after I started rail pressure was at 5 to 6,000 not the normal 6,500 to 7,050. Noticed last week a change in exhaust note like idle was a little down. Truck starts a little slow but runs fine.Wonder if I have the same problem as you.Sorry to hi jack.

I bought a rail plug, replaced the stock PRV with the plug, babied the truck, sent in my PRV as the core to T&C, and replaced the plug with the new T&C PRV when it came back. Turnaround time was great. The extra cost of the plug was way cheaper than the factory solution. Just take it easy when the plug is in.
Also check with Harry at Peak in Vancouver for the T&C, might save some on the UPS gouging.
