power take off
Doesn't that give you more power when you take off from a stop light?? I thought there was a dealer that was ordering the "power take off" option so his customers could get to where they were going faster.....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_take-off
A power take-off (PTO) is a splined driveshaft, usually on a tractor or truck that can be used to provide power to an attachment or separate machine. It is designed to be easily connected and disconnected. The power take-off allows implements to draw energy from the tractor's engine.

Noun 1. power takeoff - a device that transfers power from an engine (as in a tractor or other motor vehicle) to another piece of equipment (as to a pump or jackhammer)

ha ha ha.
now lets help the man out.
you've already read the defintions. now for the practical stuff.
If you have the 6 speed, there are 2 black stamped steel covers on the outboard sides of your trans. that is where you can bolt a PTO to be run off of the trans. For such things as, hydraulics for a snow plow, winch, tow truck applications, dump bed, etc.

The old jeeps (pre-CJ5 I think) used to have PTO transfer cases. A lot of people used them for industrial or farming work by attaching a hydraulic winch to it, pier hole auger, snow plow etc. Just like dodgezilla04 described. That's pretty cool that we have them on our trucks. Maybe it's time to get a hydraulic winch
