Power steering Pump. 04.5 2500 4x4

I'm now on my 4th replacement PS pump in 6 months. Has anyone had any issues with them??? My org went out and I replaced with a NAPA.. everywhere I looked they are all rebulids. After the 2nd pump, NAPA went to a differant rebuild but still the same issue. Oil pumping out around the output shaft under pressure.

I just called 2 Dodge dealers to order a new factory pump and now they say Dodge did a change in the parts book and now instead of a $250 pump. You have to buy pump, tank & bracket for just over $1200 (up yours Dodge!).

I just ordered thru ebay from a dismantaler a pump off a 2006 with 60,000. I'm hoping this might last longer then 2 months.

Anyone have any ideals. PS. I'm doing EVEYTHING by the book as far as the method of the labor. Even vacuming the air out as to a TSB.

Does it come with the pulley installed? if not how are you installing the old pulley? Very rarely see these pumps leaking, I mostly see the high pressure hose leaking.

I have a pulley puller and I'm very careful not to harm or apply any pressure to the shaft. I've been over careful in the practice of removing and installing the pulley with the puller. The pulley puller uses a threaded shaft that screws into the PS pump shaft to suck the pulley onto the shaft.. The pulley I've had check to be sure it's true.

Do a search on here for the PS cap modification. There is supposed to be a breather port on the cap but when they were manufactured they messed up and put too much pressure on the internals of the cap sealing off the breather port. it is a simple fix and in my opinion will extend the life of the pump. Have you ever noticed when you go to remove the cap that it is pressurized slightly...some have even reported the pressure buildup blowing their caps right off...

Thanks for that info. I wasn't aware of the cap issue. I bought a pump out of a 06' that came as a complete set up. I'll I did was bolt it up to my Cummins. Time will tell if this pump goes bad.....I'm keeping my warranty pump from Napa as a back up until I feel like I can trust it again.
