Power steering Cap leak?

Has anyone had their power steering fluid holding tank leak at the cap? The cap looks to be in good condition, but it's leaking BAD.

There really isn't any pressure there, so if it is leaking it could be overfull. My trans cooler was leaking and fan was blowing it onto p/s pump and gear box.....something to maybe look at. look through the fan shroud into radiator and see if any fins are coated. DC uses ATF in trans and power steering. Was P/S fluid low?

Well, there IS pressure there as soon as I shut the truck off and check the level, the cap is pressurized for some reason. Is this my problem? The cap is for sure the culprit. Not the tranny cooler.

there may be a small poof of pressure when taking the cap off, but more than that I would say is a problem. Is the fluid level low? have you had to add fluid? Could it be Overfull?

There's been threads on this issue before. Some have had the cap blown off the P/S pump. Seems like the fix is to drill a hole on top of the cap and install a vent hose.

It's not overfilled, it does have a small amount of pressure, not much when I pull the cap. A vent makes sense, if that's what I should do.

I know you already stated its probably not too full. But I had this issue a couple weeks ago and it just happened to be after I added a little fluid. I was looking on the wrong side of the dipstick and added about a 1/8 qt and then went on a 200 mile trip and when I got back it had heated up and overflowed on that side of the engine bay and down the axel. I didn't notice till a little dripped in the garage as most of it had blown off.

I sucked a little fluid out when it was cold after it sat for day and it's been fine. One thing I did notice on my trip was slow speed turns seemed to require a little force like the pump was dying. I thought maybe I wasn't keeping the engine speed up to turn the pump, but I think the high fluid did it as its fine now.

I can verify the pressure also. I also believe my cap is leaking. With the truck running or not, if I remove the cap, it REALLY pops off with pressure.

I also have a steering whine but, the reservoir is full and not over filled.

I remember reading a thread some where about it but, forget where. Something about having to replace one of the hoses to eliminate the problem???
