Possible no start fix
Possible no start fix
I have read about what appears to be progressive injector failure via bypass leakage into the fuel return circuit. This appears to be happening at around 100,000 miles and working its way up through the 03s to the 04s and so on as their miles accumulate. The problem of no start appears to be that the cranking rpm is no longer sufficient to attain the starting CR pressure that the computer wants -- so it refuses to fire the injectors. If the truck is force started (e.g. ether or some other way -- pushed: manual trans) the engine runs great. This is because there is no problem creating the needed rail pressure at idle rpm or above -- even with injectors that are bypassing excess fuel.
It would seem to me that outfits like TST could create a small box that would be inserted in the rail pressure sensor wiring. Its job would be to wait a nominal period during start up and then lie to the computer that a good starting pressure had been attained. The computer would turn on the injectors, the truck would start, and the box would automatically turn off its startup aid function. This starting aid could also be incorporated in any box that currently acts to fool the computer about rail pressure.
This should be a much cheaper fix than six new injectors.
