No, they are a crappy design with the inner and outer bearings way too close together. They are destined to go out sooner or later with a lot of them going out sooner than later! The Ford Superduties have the same problem, and its not uncommon for them to lose bearings at 30k miles. When mine go, I'll will be replacing them with a hub conversion, either by Dynatrac or EMS Offroad.

I found the manual ones for the 4x4? Do they have one for the 2wd? If so let me know because I have wanted to do that it is a far better design!

I second that! To sum things up they are designed to fail!!! If they would put a grease fitting on them those babys would last forever!!! Dodge says they are a lifetime bearing that never needs to be replaced but I guess they have a short lifetime!

Hey can you get the hub conversion for the 2wd? I've seen the for a 4x4!

Just how and why would you put manual locking hubs on a 2 wheel drive? I plan on doing the Dynatrac conversion as they are about 45 min from me. EMS has been saying their kit will be out in 2 weeks for several months now. yea, sure.

Well the hubs that I was talking about takes it back to the old style of wheel bearing. I have seen those kits but only for a 4wd.

My truck has seen alot of use, highway and gravel roads. Just did the ball joints and they where nice and tight like new. Surprised as I feel I have experienced everything bad that can happen to this dodge lemon. Be careful if your taking the hub off for the first time, they do not use any lubricant of any king out of the factory and they are usually siezed up good.

Interesting. My 7/70 paperwork says wheel bearings are covered.
Guess I'll find out Wednesday when mine goes in to see if the dealer's diagnosis agrees with Les Schwab's diagnosis.
$725 installed including the alignment quoted by Schwab.

Nope, mine were not covered. Read closely under 4x4 section, axle bearing are covered, wheel bearing are not. They (dodge) claim coverage only for the bearing inside the axle housing.

Front wheel bearings are considered a wear item. Pretty slick. Design a non-serviceable wheel bearing assembly. Sell it as never needing to be serviced. Have them fail and don't cover them calling them a wear item like brakes. It's a nice truck, why do they have to do stuff like that.

Because then they would last forever!! and we could work on them cheaper like the old days!! You know how they do it, they are designed to fail!!

They are covering it under warranty. This is strange. Kind of makes me think it all depends on which dealer you take it too and how they interpret the warranty coverage.

How Do I check to see if they are going out? Mine Truck roars on long trips, but I thought it was just my tires. I have cooper STT's they are a mud terrain tire. They have been quiet until last week when the front end started to roar.

Rotate your tires first. My mudders would always get louder when they needed rotating.

That seems to be a good question. Mine was making a loud howl @50-60 mph, would get louder as I decelerated, then the truck would make a growling vibration when you come to a stop. Dealer said my bearings were bad and rotors warped. After new front brakes, rotors, and wheel bearings and $1500 later, all of my same problems exist. I took it back today. I kept my old bearings they took off. They feel ok, no binding and they seem to turn smooth. I think I will be asking for some money back. . I thought I may have a bad rear u-joint. After driving on a short trip, the one closest to the rear axle will get so hot it will burn if touched, however the U-joint is tight though with no play. I am kind of stumped right now.
