pop/cracking noise front end
pop/cracking noise front end
I just bought my 05 ram a month ago and recently driving it and heard and felt in the floor boards a popping/cracking noise when accelerating and when it shifts into first if im giving it hard throttle. But it pops no matter what when I accelerate from stop if I baby it or hammer it. It has new ball joints so does anyone have any ideas it has 106kfoam on .the truck. Thanks for any help

x2 on checking the u-joints.....they were far from being quality pieces!! If you have a long-bed then you will have a carrier bearing. It's bolted to a x-member under the cab where the 2-piece driveshaft goes together. If your truck is a 4x4 and you still believe the problem exists in the front end then you might consider checking the axle joints as they too are prone to fail.
Fill out your signature so we know exactly what you have.

Its a 4x4 short box but it sounds like its in the middle more towards the front. It has a brand new t case but the joints other then one in the rear have a nice rust color to them and I checked today and I does not make the noise in reverse or at least I could not hear it but going forward you can hear and feel it and there is a small vibration in the steering wheel on the freeway

Crawl under the vehicle. Grab the driveshaft and the pinion gear. Attempt to twist them opposite of one another. There should be no play. Be careful not to confuse driveline lash (movement) with the Ujoint being loose
So I took it to the dealership and had them figure it out it was a bad u joint but the noise was from a loose rear motor mount they fixed it and its good as new and good thing I got an extended warranty on it so it cost me 100 bucks to fix thanks guys for all your help
