Poor mileage while towing?
Drum style parking brakes have been used a long time on other makes. Since 1990 to my knowledge. That started using them on the Dodges in 03'. No big deal. But they are not monitored like suggested above. That is wrong....

Here's a quote from the service manual -
"PARKING BRAKE
DESCRIPTION
The parking brakes are secured to a support plate (1)
and operated by a system of cables and levers
attached to a primary and secondary shoe (2) positioned
within the drum section of the rotor.
The drum-in-hat design utilizes an independent set of
shoes (2) to park the vehicle."
There are pictures of the drum, which is inside the rotor assembly. If you have 4 wheel disc brakes then you probably have this 'drum in hat' parking brake that is seperate fomr the disc brake with it's own brake shoes.

I am very familiar with the drum-in-hat system but he was told it was 4 wheel. they are only on the rear.
I have an auto and a stick late model dodge . the auto just doesnt do as well towing . I have found though that 60mph is the sweet spot for both trucks. slow down to 60 and try to use your cruise control when ever possible. your mileage will come up considerably. if I run 70 my mileage while towing comes down 2 miles per gallon from 60 mph. alot of it is the wind resistance of that big trailer behind you. takes alot more fuel to get that big ba$7rd to slice through the air at higher speeds.
Fuel Mileage
My 05 auto 3:75 gears, SRW. cummins work truck rarely gets better than 10 mpg. I use it to pull a mini roll off trailer, weighs varies around 5-8 k . my best was about 17 mpg not pulling anything, on hwy. hand calculated.
27' V nose Haulmark Car hauler (102" wide), bumper pull, weighing in at 10K. I saw consistently 9.5-11 MPG. I don't think you are too far off pulling that large barn behind your truck. Best mileage i saw was in the 55-60 MPH range. 70-75 MPH, ouch!! Maybe 8-9 MPG?
I have a 23 ft TT that is around 6k and did a trip from Washington to Wyoming this last summer...
I averaged around 12 mpg with my worst day around 10 mpg.
I have an 05 6sp and kept the speed to around 60 - 65.
Sure was nice not having to shift on any of the the hills on freeway... This truck has great power!
