Pcm???
Pcm???
Anybody out there know if the manual trans trucks have a Cummins PCM rather than a Dodge one? I was reading a TSB that talked about corrosion at the PCM and replacing it and wiring. They stated it only covered the automatic trucks not the sticks. Thanks in advance.
PCM = Powertrain Control Module. This unit is made by Dodge, and is the master computer between the ECM, ABS computer, Airbag computer, transmission computer, etc... There isn't one made by Cummins.

DC and Cummins both source PCM's from a third party. The DC ones are specific to the Cummins Ram. I'm not sure who specs it out, but the work is done by those who serve Cummins. The DC gas stuff is different.
As far as the differeces. I don't know for sure. I'd suspect there is a different wiring harness. And probably a different part number for the PCM. If they did that they could "not place" some of the auto specific bits inside the box and save a few bucks.
I'm not sure. But I'd suspect that if there was an issue related to a defect in a run of harnesses or PCM's that they could narrow that down enough to know which units it was, and perhaps only auto's were being made that day. Just a guess, not fact, blah blah blah..hope it was somewhat helpful.

One ones in our Rams are mostly DC-dictacted and there isn't a whole lot of Cummins-based programming. There's a host of cool features and information available from the ECMs on all other B-series Cummins engines that Dodge does not utilize, unfortunately, like actual fuel flow, total life fuel usage, power usage, max RPM, idle time, and ACCURATE MPG.
