Pac Brake

I have a 05 with an air operated pac brake and lately I have been having trouble with it ''freezing'' on in cold weather? It works fine until I go down a grade when it is cold outside then the temp drops and makes it freeze up. If I sit at the bottom of the grade until the temp comes up it disenguages, Do you think some air line antifreeze could do the trick?

They're sposed to be lubricated once in a while, I'd try that first, after spraying with a cleaner like WD-40 or something.

They make an air brake alcohol that is for freezing up conditions. You can get it at truck stops. Do you have a drain valve on your air tank, may be moisture causing your problem. I too would clean it real well and lubricate it. PacBrake makes/has a lubricant for their brakes. If all that does not work, you could have a bad cylinder. There is adjusting and testing procedure information in the resources information on their site. You could also give them a call, they are very helpful and have good customer service.

The silver solenoid on there has a rubber seal and spring in the middle if you unscrew the two halves apart. It might need a good cleaning. I had to do that to mine. Lubing the cylinder arm is a good thing to do. Don't use WD-40 as it will dry the seal out. Pac Brake has a good lube to use like said above.

Yah, Pac Brake is right near me, I'll hafta get some of that stuff one day before I start having problems.
They put out a good kit, you'd think they'd include the lube too?
Might look at the air bags while I'm there.

I too thought they would have included some lube in the kit. Oh well.

I installed a drain on my tank when I put the system in. I just used a 175 psi blow off valve for a compressor. Got it at Tractor supply. This way every so often I can just pull the stem (spring loaded) and clear the bottom of the tank. You'd be surprised how nasty it gets in there, very rusty water from the cheesy tank.

PJ, like they have on air brake tanks?
That's a great idea.
Also note they drain the air tanks every day for the air brake trucks...

I have an an air dryer on my tank as well as a drain valve in the tank... Hit the drain valve about once a month and throw a little lube on the shaft and rotating pins on the brake.
