your lift pump is toast.

That is where the 0628 comes from, and the absence of low pressure fuel is causing the cutting out and stumbling.

being an 04, your buddies truck might have the lift pump mounted on the filter housing, those were very prone to failing. If he already has an update, its in the tank, and a pain to work around.

my lift pump problems

well, i think i got it all wrapped up. i got my fass lift pump yesterday evening and started it this morning,, i also put a inline fuel filter after the tank and before the lp. i had to do some drilling and fitting and had to take off the front driveshaft but it was bad at all..when i got it all together it took some time to get all the air out of the lines, but finally i got fuel at the filter housing and she started up no problem after that, i found the pump at ebay for 195. and it took 5 days to get here, but the local shop wanted almost 800. to put it on and buy the lp.im glad im pretty handy. well i havnt ran it out the shop yet but i feel it go ok. the origanal lp didnt work at all and this one runs pretty good. all i have to do now is get a fuel pressure gauge and ill be done, all together id say out of 1 to 10 its a 3 to 4 on the difficulty scale, if you have all the tools and a concrete floor to work on its not to bad,i took the driver tire off the inner plastic fender and had to work from there and from the bottom, but it wasnt bad at all. by the way your talking about your friends truck and the codes id defenately say it the lp. good luck
